With S/4HANA, SAP is breaking new ground and things are changing. Not only in the data model, program and system architecture. In particular, there are changes in the area of foreign trade.
If you previously relied on SAP ERP in foreign trade, it will no longer be as easy to map the processes with S/4HANA. If you are using SAP GTS, there are no problems at first. GTS can be used under S/4HANA. We explain the differences, advantages and disadvantages of SAP ERP and S/4HANA.
SAP ERP: SD-FT for foreign trade and customs
SAP Sales & Distribution (SD) is part of SAP ERP (or ECC). The component integrates with SAP ERP modules such as Production Planning (PP), Plant Maintenance (PM), Quality Management (QM), Materials Management (MM), Finance and Controlling (FICO), and Human Resources (HR). In conjunction with these other modules, SAP SD enables an order-to-cash cycle business process. The SD-FT subcomponent takes care of foreign trade processes, including imports and exports.
These include automatic verification of export licenses based on current regulations, simplified reporting and identification of products for preference processing. Customs clearance is not included, nor are sanctions list checks, confirmation of arrival or VAT ID checks.
SAP S/4HANA International Trade
In contrast to SD-FT, S/4HANA International Trade only maps part of the previous functions. In particular, the functions for customs clearance, sanctions list check and preference processing are missing. SAP S/4HANA International Trade relies on the FIORI apps for intuitive operation. The system manages export and import licenses and monitors cross-border transactions.
